EASL 095C Debates and Dialogues is an advanced interactive communicative seminar where students read, discuss and debate. Students work on improving their speaking and listening skills while they learn and practice how debates and formal discussions are structured.
Corequisite: Current enrolment in English Language Program.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- participate in a variety of complex conversations, activities and discussions concerning contemporary global issues.
- prepare and support a discussion from a variety of perspectives, with references and facts from a variety of sources including, TV, video, internet, newspapers, etc.
- build vocabulary necessary to discuss contemporary issues (politics, economics, culture, language, human rights, etc.)
- demonstrate the ability to incorporate new vocabulary in discussions.
- develop critical analysis skills and demonstrate an ability to understand and respond to questions, feedback and extended exchanges on varying perspectives.
- demonstrate an understanding of natural speech delivered through a variety of media (radio, TV, film, CD/DVD).
- demonstrate knowledge of typical debate format and participate in a classroom debate.
