EASL 017 Fundamental Reading

EASL 017 Fundamental Reading helps students who speak English as an additional language to improve their understanding of English through reading at a fundamental level. Students build basic vocabulary, develop an understanding of word forms, learn to use reading skills such as skimming and scanning, and discuss ideas through reading selected material.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Use a bilingual dictionary
  2. Phonetically decode familiar and some unfamiliar words
  3. Scan for specific information in short, familiar texts
  4. Identify key information and answer questions about simple texts on every-day topics
  5. Answer questions about short, simple written texts using basic everyday literal vocabulary
