EASL 093B Speaking Professionally is an advanced interactive communicative seminar which provides opportunities for students enrolled in the Advanced English Language Program to practice professional public speaking skills. The course helps students build confidence in developing and presenting ideas publicly, in responding to questions and comments, and in developing clarity of speech.
Corequisite: Current enrolment in the English Language Program.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- develop, present and support an idea in a public forum.
- speak spontaneously on a variety of topics.
- respond to questions and comments from the audience following a presentation.
- engage in discussion of presentation topics.
- ask meaningful critical questions of presenters.
- develop and use vocabulary appropriate to the topics discussed.
- demonstrate an improved (from the beginning of the course) ability to speak clearly and confidently using appropriate tone, nuance, register and body language.
- speak clearly so that they are easily understood by an audience.
