SROM 158 Ski Area Risk Prevention and Management focuses on the identification, analysis and evaluation of the accidental risks involved in operating and managing a ski resort. The course examines methods of managing accidental risks including skier safety programs, operating procedures, risk financing and insurance, and the implementation of a risk management administrative program. The course also examines ski area liability cases, and examines the key aspects of employee safety programs.

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Summarize the need for an organized risk management program at a ski area and to identify and describe the main elements of the formal "risk management process"
- Identify ski area resources and exposures and categorize those resources and exposures according to common risk management practice
- Describe methods of valuation and loss estimating of ski area resources and to apply loss record practice to those resources
- Describe and apply methods of ski area risk prevention and control
- Describe various forms of risk financing and insurance
- Organize a formal risk management administrative system for a ski area
- Identify and explain various legal doctrines that apply to and arise from ski area liability cases
- Identify and explain key responsibilities and regulations regarding workplace safety issues
