Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Conduct a search for and arrange an approved office practicum placement
  2. Submit required contracts and evaluation instruments by agreed upon deadlines
  3. Apply skills and knowledge developed during training
  4. Adhere to workplace regulations during the practicum
  5. Act in a responsible and professional manner in a work environment
  6. Apply developing time management skills
  7. Work effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and clients on the job

Teaching and Learning Approach

Students research and interview prospective employers to establish a two-week practicum. Cover letters and resumes are submitted to instructor and employer for selection. Once positioned, students will apply their administrative, accounting and software skills in an office environment. Students will report on their experience and duties by way of journal entries and a summary document, and have employers complete an Employer Evaluation Form. The student is responsible for ensuring that the host employer providing the practicum receives a letter from the instructor, a Work Experience Agreement form, an Employer Evaluation form, and an appreciation letter at the conclusion of the two weeks. Job placement supports the student’s overall objective by providing relevant experience, additional resume content and potentially a reference, exposure to a potential office position, and building confidence in the student for future employment searches.
