OTEC 153 Spreadsheets provides students with a working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel. Students will learn how to design, create, modify, and present professional-looking spreadsheets for use in today's workplace. Exercises include using formulas and built-in functions to solve mathematical problems. Students will also learn how to illustrate and present spreadsheet data in graphic form.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Plan, create, modify and present spreadsheets
- Organize, edit, format and enhance data in spreadsheets to achieve business standards
- Use formulas and built-in functions appropriately and correctly to solve problems and critically assess the results
- Plan, organize, create and present spreadsheet data in graphic form
- Design efficient spreadsheets capable of answering ‘what if’ questions to solve business problems
- Create and utilize financial functions including the PMT function
- Create data tables and amortization schedules
- Effectively consolidate multiple sheets and workbooks
- Create, sort, and query tables
Teaching and Learning Approach
Students will practice hands-on exercises to learn spreadsheet concepts and efficient techniques and skills
needed to produce numerical business documents. 10-key touch keypad speed and accuracy are also further
enhanced by document production. Students develop their software skills through a series of activities, self-
assessments, theory and practical tests. Strong spreadsheet skills support the student’s overall objective by
enhancing productivity and timely completion of assigned tasks in the workplace. Following instructions,
proofreading and using software functions proficiently, students develop a range of valuable skills essential for
