OTEC 181 Capstone: Bookkeeping helps students extend their accounting, word processing and database, and spreadsheet software knowledge by completing a variety of practical, integrated projects. Students will also further develop decision-making, prioritizing, organizing, and other administrative skills.
Prerequisites: OTEC 171, OTEC 172, and OTEC 175 all with a minimum grade of 60%

Teaching and Learning Approach
Students apply their accounting and software skills to complete a variety of practical, integrated projects. It is an
opportunity for students to demonstrate what has been learned in the Office Administration & Technology
program and to better understand the integration of all the skills required in an office environment. Jobs are
presented in a business simulation, requiring student to fulfill the role of an office assistant to complete a series
of work activities related to general accounting and administrative tasks. Projects require initiative, creativity,
prioritizing, planning and skill in software applications. Sage Accounting, Word and Excel knowledge is utilized as
students complete projects and coordinate activities. Internet research and written communication is required in
order for students to complete some projects. Professional document formatting covered in the program is
required for all submissions. Incorporating multiple skills into one role supports the student’s overall objective by
providing opportunity for students to practice multi-tasking, coordinating, decision-making, and resourcefulness.Learning Resources
