OTEC 151 Word Processing II

School of Business

OTEC 151 Word Processing II is a continuation of Word Processing I and is designed to progress students beyond the basic functions of a word processing program to further enhance documents. Students are introduced to some of the more advanced features of Word including automating formatting, utilizing special Word features, merging documents, and customizing documents. Business standards in all documents are upheld throughout the course. Microsoft Word software is utilized as the learning platform; however, skills can be transferred to most word processing programs.

Prerequisites: OTEC 150 with a minimum grade of 60%

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  2. Use the dictionary, thesaurus, and Smart Lookup features
  3. Create data source files, main documents and utilize merge
  4. Customize lists, images, page numbers, and themes
  5. Insert Headers and Footers
  6. Proof documents and create charts
  7. Apply text effects and manage document properties
  8. Insert and customize icons and 3D Models
  9. Sort paragraphs, columns, and tables
  10. Create sources, citations, and reference lists
  11. Create Table of Contents and Table of Figures
  12. Work with shared documents

Teaching and Learning Approach

Students will practice hands-on exercises to learn efficient word processing techniques and skills needed to produce standard business documents. Keyboarding speed and accuracy are also further enhanced by document production. Students develop their software skills through a series of activities, self-assessments, theory and practical tests. Strong word processing skills support the student’s overall objective by enhancing productivity and timely completion of assigned tasks in the workplace. Following instructions, proofreading and using software functions proficiently, students develop a range of valuable skills essential for the office environment.
