MUSC 245 Live Sound Production I provides an introduction to the theory and practice of PA and sound reinforcement. Students will explore the fundamentals of live sound systems (portable and in-house), monitors, microphone techniques, live mixing and concert recording (stereo and multi-track). Also covered are best practices for sound checking, eliminating feedback, troubleshooting and file management.
Prerequisites: MUSC 161 with a minimum grade of 83%

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Recognize and describe the use of all equipment used in a variety of contemporary PA and sound reinforcement applications
- Describe and be able to assist with the set-up and operation of PA equipment used in small and medium-sized performance venues
- Describe and be able to assist with the set-up and operation of sound systems suitable for music reinforcing live concerts, speaking events and multi-media presentations
- Locate, identify and resolve common problems found in live PA and sound reinforcement set-ups
