DA 232 Web Application Development will introduce the principles behind and the techniques used in the creation of web based applications for distribution on mobile and tablet devices. An emphasis will be placed on the understanding and use of current technologies, including HTML, CSS, javaScript, jQuery and others, to add functionality and interactivity. Additional topics will include user interface design, usability and usability studies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Communicate effectively with text, graphics, motion, sound and video
  2. Produce effective flow of function charts and storyboards for advanced application planning
  3. Identify and use the principles of effective interaction design including consistency, engagement, clarity, visual hierarchies and cognitive load
  4. Analyse user interfaces and provide constructive feedback on design and navigational structures
  5. Integrate various web technologies such as HTML, CSS, javaScript, and jQuery, to achieve a desired goal
  6. Identify the importance of conducting usability studies and conduct successful usability studies
  7. Conceptualize, design, develop and publish high-quality, professional, interactive applications for use on mobile and tablet devices
