ADMN 230 Project Management is designed as a first course in project management. Building foundation skills in project management is of value to anyone who is currently facing project planning and management challenges at work or to students in Business Administration Professional Management or technology programs. ADMN 230 Project Management gives you the foundation, experience, techniques and tools to: - Learn the 10 Project Management Knowledge Areas - plan a project effectively and successfully - manage each stage of the project life cycle successfully - work with organizational constraints - set goals and objectives tied directly to stakeholder needs - get the most from your project management team - utilize state-of-the-art project management tools to get the work done on time, within scope and on budget.
Prerequisites: ADMN 170 or equivalent with a minimum of 60%

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Know and understand the ten Knowledge Areas of Project Management
- Determine if an assignment is or should be a project and, if so, how to develop a project
- Describe in depth, understand and utilize the processes in the project management lifecycle
- Describe relationships between organizational behaviour and successful project management
- Be able to create a project plan using appropriate software tools, such as Microsoft Project 2010, and utilize the tools to effectively plan, track and assign resources
- Understand the role of assumptions and constraints in project management and planning
- Discuss the importance of and utilize the Work Breakdown Structure
- Learn the methods of assigning the right resource(s)
- Learn how to identify and assess project risks
- Describe and utilize techniques to avoid scope creep and understand the risks arising from scope creep
- Describe and recognize the stages of team development
- Establish procedures for change management control
- Determine if and when a project is successful
Teaching and Learning Approach
A combination of textbook readings, video lessons, and virtual class exercises will develop each student’s ability
to initiate, plan, execute, and close any project. The textbook is a mandatory and essential resource for this
course. Practical, hands-on project management tools, methods, and best practices will be learned and applied
in this course.
Projects cannot be completed without the synergy and effort of teams. Learners will be forming project teams to
complete in-class and course assignments. Team members will be required to contribute, collaborate, and work
effectively and will be evaluated based on team effort and contribution.
