ECCE 289 Responsive Inclusive Environments

School of Health and Human Services

ECCE 289 Responsive Inclusive Environments explores inclusion as a core professional practice in early childhood and related systems. Learners will examine the strengths and complexities of families and assess environments through an accessibility lens. Emphasis is placed on observing children with exceptionalities using strength‑based approaches, interpreting developmental assessments, and designing responsive learning experiences that support children’s well‑being, belonging, and growth. Through the development of effective interpersonal communication skills, learners will strengthen collaboration with families and interdisciplinary professionals while critically applying their own philosophy of inclusion to professional practice.

Prerequisites: Completion of the basic ECCE certificate at Selkirk College or the equivalent.
