ECCE 286 Infant Toddler Practicum experience is designed to provide the student, under supervision, with opportunities to apply and consolidate knowledge and skills in working with infants and toddlers in group settings. Five weeks in length, this block practicum places each student in an early childhood setting for children under age three.
Prerequisites: ECCE 285 , ECCE 200, ECCE 260 and HSER 267. Early Childhood Education Certificate and successful completion of the listed prerequisites with a minimum of 60%.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Have an understanding the caregivers role for the child under three years of age
- Applying principles of quality care and interpersonal communication in developing and facilitating collaborative interpersonal relationships with and among a variety of children under three, families, team members and other professionals in the ECCE community
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill in observing, recording and analyzing significant information to all aspects of the care and education of the child under three years
- Use observations, ECCE principles, and personal creativity in planning, providing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate approaches to support and extend the play and discovery of the child under three years
- Use the principles of guidance in guiding the behaviour of children under three years
- Demonstrate accountability as an Early Childhood Educators and in taking responsibility for personal and professional growth
Teaching and Learning Approach
The practicum will provide opportunities for the learner to relate theory to practice, as well as, to develop the
professional skills required in the work setting. The support and guidance of the sponsor educator is critical to the
process by providing structured and specific on-site feedback. The college instructor will visit the student onsite
or remotely and observe their practice a minimum of three times during the practicum. Additionally, the instructor,
student and sponsor educator will meet to discuss the students’ progress and learning goals.Learning Resources
