PTEC 220 Technology for Product Distribution

PTEC 220 Technology for Product Distribution introduces students to the management of database information and technology used in the pharmacy to dispense medications. Students apply concepts learned in previous theory courses to pharmacy case study scenarios using pharmacy dispensing software. Accuracy and completeness of database information and appropriate use of technology systems to support safe product distribution are emphasized. Concepts explored in this course provide a foundation for subsequent lab courses in the program.

Prerequisites: Completion of Semester 3 in PTEC Program

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Create and maintain database information used in processing rescriptions/medication orders, using pharmacy dispensing software. CPTEA 2.2.6, 3.1, 3.4, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 9.3.
  2. Review and maintain drug distribution and pharmacy records securely and permanently with the use of technology and best practices. CPTEA 3.1, 3.2, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3.
  3. Create and maintain accurate drug inventory records to support safe, effective and efficient product distribution. CPTEA 3.2, 4.2, 4.4.
  4. Create accurate prescription labels that demonstrate knowledge of legal and regulatory standards. CPTEA 1.1, 1.5. 3.2.
