PTEC 213 Transition to Professional Practice is designed to support students in preparing for preceptorship, licensure exams upon graduation, and entry to practice. Students build on their knowledge of regulatory requirements, jurisprudence, and ethical and professional practice.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Semester 1 and 2 courses in PTEC Program

Corequisite: PTEC 217

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Organize and establish the steps required for registration of pharmacy technician graduates
  2. Differentiate federal and provincial legislation in preparation for jurisprudence and PEBC exams
  3. Support the obligation for continuing education and professional expectations
  4. Apply the code of ethics to professional practice for continued professional growth

Teaching and Learning Approach

This course emphasizes active learning and professional readiness by engaging students with regulatory standards, legislation, and expectations for pharmacy practice. Activities include completing a continuing education credit to explore expectations of lifelong learning, planning next steps after practicum and preparation for registration exams, and reflecting on professionalism and the Code of Ethics as it relates to pharmacy practice. Students create potential final exam questions followed by a mock jurisprudence exam. This is followed by a debrief discussion to strengthen their understanding of legislation and regulatory requirements.

1. Code of ethics, professionalism, health professional, jurisprudence assignment LO# 4 2. Provincial regulatory authority expectations, preparation for practice, and exam set up . LO#1 3. Continuing education activity that provides general information and knowledge to build healthy relationships with First Nations clients. Clarify professional responsibilities. LO #3 4. Professional planning portfolio, mapping document, and provincial and national exam preparation. LO#2
