PTEC 101 Introduction to Program and Online Learning for Success. This course introduces students to the Pharmacy Technician Program structure and how to navigate the online learning management system (Moodle). An overview of the curriculum, teaching and learning approaches and strategies for success are discussed. Students are introduced to the steps required to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician in Canada.

Prerequisites: PTEC 101 with a CRG

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Describe the structure of the Pharmacy Technician Diploma Program and the expectations for professionalism
  2. Identify Selkirk College policies and services that support and govern students
  3. Develop effective organizational and time management strategies to enhance success in online learning
  4. Describe writing expectations and the process for accessing resources to make evidence-informed decisions
  5. Identify the steps required to become a registered pharmacy technician

Teaching and Learning Approach

Through daily participation and independent study in the course website, students complete tasks to practice Moodle activities that will be used in the program online theory courses. Students will gain an understanding of the Pharmacy Technician regulation process and the expectations of the Pharmacy Technician Program at Selkirk College. Students will learn how to access college support services, library services, and practice effective time management for success in a fast-paced online program. Assessment will involve the completion of the summative course checklist.

Grade Description
AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
