PTEC 100 Pharmacy Seminar, provides a discovery course for students to become familiar with the profession of pharmacy technician; the roles and responsibilities of all members of the pharmacy team and the importance of intra and inter professional collaboration in the pharmacy environment. Patient care and product distribution are explored to give students a foundation in these areas that will be further discovered in other courses in the program. During the first week students are introduced to a program orientation site that prepares them to work in our online environment.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Identify the Pharmacy Technician Regulation process with an emphasis on the skills needed and the future of the Pharmacy Technician role in Canada
- Identify and describe the Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacists role within the pharmacy environment with focus on practicing within legal requirements of the professionalism, standards of practice and code of ethics
- Identify and describe the Pharmacy Technicians role in the pharmacy environment for patient care, product distribution and health promotion
- Demonstrate the ability to use appropriate technologies and web based resources for research and presentation as needed to show evidence-informed decisions and as a pharmacy team member
- Develop professional communication and collaborative teamwork skills as would be needed in the pharmacy environment though group work presentations to the weekly discussion forums
- Demonstrate reflective and critical thinking skills needed for the work in the pharmacy with questions presented in the Progress Log assignment and final reflective essay
