NUCL 180 Practicum provides the learner with a consolidated clinical experience where they can apply theory from the Nursing Unit Clerk program. Students work full shifts with an experienced Nursing Unit Clerk.
Prerequisites: NUCL 170 with a minimum grade of 80%

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Communicate verbally using language appropriate to the situation
- Use active listening skills to record and relay verbal messages accurately

Practicum Expectations for Students
During NUCL 180: Practicum, students are expected to:
Read all information provided in the online support course prior to placement.
Dress professionally in scrubs or appropriate office attire during the placement.
Maintain a positive working relationship with their supervising NUC and other facility staff.
Work toward the integration and consolidation of knowledge gained in previous courses.
Continue developing accurate and professional practices as a Nursing Unit Clerk.
Strengthen problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Build confidence in collaborating with healthcare team members to meet learning outcomes.
Meet or exceed the performance expectations set by the placement site.
Achieve all learning outcomes to a satisfactory level, as evaluated by the supervising NUC(s) during the
placement.

4. 4. Continue to take on increasing responsibility in order to gain a deeper understanding of the full scope of the Nursing Unit Clerk role. This progression supports skill development, confidence, and readiness for independent practice.
5. 5. Readiness for Independent Practice Demonstrate the ability to work independently and show comfort and competence in completing the majority of the Nursing Unit Clerk’s responsibilities with minimal supervision.
