MATH 100 Calculus I is a course designed to provide students with the background in calculus needed for further studies. This course includes a review of functions and graphs; limits; the derivative of algebraic, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions; applications of the derivative including related rates, maxima, minima, velocity and acceleration; the definite integral; an introduction to elementary differential equations; and applications of integration including velocity, acceleration, areas, and growth and decay problems.
Prerequisites: Pre-Calculus 12 or MATH 60 with a minimum grade of 67%

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Calculate limits algebraically, using tables of values and L’Hôpital’s rule
- Calculate derivatives and integrals using their definitions
- Apply the rules of derivatives (e.g. chain, product, quotient) to calculate more complicated derivatives
- Solve problems such as optimization, related rates, and linear approximations using calculus
- Create a graph of a function using derivatives
- Apply the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus and the substitution rule to solve integration problems
- Determine the inverse of a given function and calculate derivatives of inverse functions
- Recognize and solve separable differential equations
