MATH 190 Resource Statistics I is an introductory applied statistics course for environment and geomatics students. Topics include: types of data, descriptive statistics, probability and random variables, discrete probability distributions, continuous probability distributions, confidence intervals, sample size, and hypothesis testing.
Prerequisites: MATH 160 with a minimum grade of 60%

Teaching and Learning Approach
Lectures are in an interactive classroom setting with discussion encouraged.
Laboratory work uses Microsoft Excel and involves video demonstrations followed by individual investigations.
Weekly quizzes are opportunities for students to practice techniques discussed during lectures. Emphasis is
placed on: interpreting and visualizing data; understanding statistical methods; and applying appropriate
