Teaching and Learning Approach
In CPE III, the focus is on the role of the Practical Nurse within a continuum of care in a variety of community and
acute care settings. The continuum of care will provide the learner with an opportunity to integrate and apply
previous knowledge in community-based settings including home health care, rehabilitation agencies and
supportive services such as community living and disabilities or acute care settings such as maternity, pediatric
and inpatient mental health services where available. These hours may be offered as CPE III or integrated into
the Integrated Nursing Practice III course as practice hours. This faculty-supervised experience is 65 hours.
This consolidated nursing practice experience reflects the epistemology (knowing), the ontology (being), and the
praxis (i.e., the integration of skills, knowledge, beliefs, values, concepts and issues) of previous learning.
Learners engage with faculty, fellow learners, other health care professionals, and clients and their families to
facilitate the consolidation of competent and ethical professional nursing practice.
Learning experiences are designed to integrate the concepts learned in semester 3 of the practical nursing
program into practice.Learning Resources
