NURS 260 Professional Practice IV: Nursing Research enhances students’ understanding of research as part of nursing scholarship. Students will develop their abilities to comprehend, critique, and apply nursing and
interdisciplinary research to their practice. Students reflect on various types, methods, and sources of research that inform nursing theory and practice. Students critically examine their practice in relation to research and pose research questions for evidence-informed practice.
Prerequisites: AHSC 218, NURS 216, NURS 219, NURS 212 all with a minimum grade of 60%

- Compare and contrast research methodologies used in nursing research
- Appraise and critique the quality of scholarly and non-scholarly sources of information to inform nursing practice
- Explore ethical considerations in developing and conducting research
- Recognize the strengths and limitations of research used by nursing and other disciplines to advance nursing practice and influence health outcomes
- Critically analyze the following sections of research reports: research problem and purpose, literature review, conceptual/theoretical basis, variables, research questions and hypotheses, research design, ethical considerations, population and sample, data collection techniques, data analysis, and research findings
- Develop and refine researchable questions from nursing practice
