Overview
Program Summary
The Selkirk College Music program has been preparing students for the commercial music and entertainment industry for over 30 years.
A diverse cross-section of musical styles is offered that allows students to explore the best that each genre has to offer, from rock and blues to jazz, folk and world music. Develop your skills in performance, improvisation, songwriting, composition, film scoring, recording and live sound mixing.
Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion students will be able to:
- synthesize and integrate knowledge of contemporary and traditional styles into musical interpretation.
- synthesize and integrate knowledge of posture, breathing, and instrumental technique into their daily practice routines.
- demonstrate technical proficiency on their principal instrument.
- sight read music in a variety of styles.
- play music in a variety of contemporary and traditional styles.
- play in ensembles of varying size, instrumentation, and stylistic orientation.
- improvise using knowledge of musical styles and harmonic practices.
- rehearse and perform a recital.

Graduation and Promotion
In order to receive your credential in your program you must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.00.
