School of Academic Upgrading and Development

PTFO 30 Portfolio Building 1 focuses on creating a document to track learning, reflections, and resources for goal-setting, mentorship skills, and life-long learning beyond the college framework. Students will create a visual and written representation of their processes for learning and achieving a personal goal. The portfolio will become a useful toolkit for the following course, PTFO 33.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Create an appropriate SMART Goal for personal growth
  2. Document the progress of one’s goal and track challenge and success areas
  3. Establish self-reflection techniques for ongoing learning
  4. Identify techniques that lead to successful learning with others during classroom activities and with mentor
  5. Locate and organize local and relevant resources available for guidance and community connections
  6. Produce a collection of reflections and evidence of one’s personal learning

Grading Table

Competency-based Grades

This grading system is based on satisfactory acquisition of defined skills or successful completion of the course learning outcomes. It is used where standard numerical grades are not generally applied, for example in evaluating practicum performance or work placements, in pass/fail courses or for non-credit courses.

Grade Description
AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
