NURS 491 Nursing Practice VIII provides opportunities for participants to consolidate their learning and explore the transition to professional nursing as a BSN graduate. Participants also explore transitions in the health care system and the workplace that affect nurses. Participants develop their practice and enhance their knowledge within a specific area, for example, a particular setting of practice, a certain client population, or a specific health challenge.
Prerequisites: NURS 360, NURS 430, and NURS 431 all with a minimum of 60%

- Examine the health care system in the context of nursing practice and community based change to develop a plan for their transition to practice

- Utilize teaching and learning strategies to build effective knowledge translation and knowledge consolidation
- Build professional relationships to support best practice, demonstrate strong team skills and support members of the healthcare team to provide safe consistent care
- Demonstrate mastery of the CIHC domains at an entry –to-practice level

Teaching and Learning Approach
A variety of activities provide participants with opportunities to engage in clinical practice, health promotion and
transitioning to the role and responsibilities of a newly graduated nurse. Learners will engage with experts to
foster relationships and build capacity within practice. Examples include active participation in acute care, public
health, home health, residential care with a preceptor or in a collaborative team.Learning Resources
