ECCE 169 Observing and Reflecting Practicum II

ECCE 169 Observing and Reflecting Practicum II is designed to integrate theories and practices in the ECCE field. Students will observe and participate in regional early childhood programs off campus. The clinical practicum provides opportunities to practice observing and recording children's individual abilities and interests over time, and, reflective practice and professional conduct.

Prerequisites: ECCE 168 with a minimum grade of 60%

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate personal and professional attributes in the practice of early childhood care and education
  2. Cultivate and maintain positive regard through relationships with children, families and others
  3. Engage with children and make their ideas, theories and discoveries visible
  4. Recognize, plan and implement current practices to inform pedagogy
  5. Reflect on the influence of the image of the child, and pedagogical choices
  6. Apply the pedagogy of listening in daily practice
  7. Engage and communicate in reflective and collaborative practice
  8. Engage in reciprocal relationships with families to gain a holistic view of the child
  9. Generate multiple perspectives, including Indigenous world views in pedagogical narrations

Teaching and Learning Approach

This is an interactive course which is learner centred and includes activities such as: large and small group discussion, group work, class presentations and project based learning. This course uses a constructivist approach where the learner is an active participant and plays a role in their own learning process. There will be plenty of opportunities for practicing new skills.
