ADMN 181 Marketing introduces students to basic concepts and principles of marketing. Topics include Canadian entrepreneurship, small business management, evaluation of business opportunities, and marketing management. Market planning will be emphasized as well as practical decision making in regards to evaluating the business environment, market segmentation, market research, and strategy choices. The marketing mix or product, price, place of distribution, and promotion will be discussed in depth.

- Explain the role of marketing in organizations; a. conduct rudimentary situational analysis of the marketing environment b. apply concepts of segmentation, targeting, and positioning c. develop the elements of the marketing mix (product, price, place, and promotion)
- Complete a variety of technical analysis
- Consult as a member of a team in the completion of specific project
Teaching and Learning Approach
The purpose of a business is to create and maintain customers.
Marketing focuses the organization on this goal by maximizing value creation for its customers, partners
and the organization.
Students will experience a broad introduction to the field of marketing by working with the fundamental concepts,
terms, theories and models used in constructing and executing marketing strategies. The course emphasizes the
practical application of marketing and uses a combination of lectures, assignments, projects, quizzes and exams
to develop a robust learning environment. Current examples and contemporary ideas are introduced throughout
the course to demonstrate the relevance and application of marketing principles in today’s business environment.
