College Course Load

Full-time Course Load

Determination of full-time and part-time status at Selkirk College is based on the number of credits per semester:

  • All post-secondary certificate, diploma, degree, and university transfer programs (excluding trades and vocational) are standard undergraduate programs. Students are considered full-time if they are enrolled in 60% of a standard course load, which is 9 credits in a standard 4-month semester, or 6 credits in a condensed 2-month semester or one of the specified full-time scenarios below.

Definitions

• 100% standard course load: 15 credits per semester for most programs (6 credits per condensed semester).
• Full-time status: 60% of a 100% course load

  • 9 credits in a standard 4-month semester
  • 6 credits in a condensed 2-month semester*

*Note that condensed terms may be subject to different definitions for funding or external purposes.

  • Part-time status: less than 60% of a 100% course load

Audit

A student who is interested in participating in a credit course but who does not wish to complete assignments, write examinations, or receive credit may enrol as an audit student provided space is available. Not all courses may be audited. Written permission to audit must be given by the instructor and School Chair. Audit courses will not count towards full-time or part-time student status.
