WELL 13 Healthy Living Skills for Adult Living explores basic health and wellness skills to set up a student for a successful balance in adult life. Students will identify positive healthy behaviours, apply general health and wellness knowledge, recognize community resources for healthy living, and set goals for healthy living.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Identify positive health behaviours in daily choices
  2. Describe and demonstrate ways to reduce risks related to unhealthy behaviours and attitudes in daily choices
  3. Demonstrate a practical knowledge of health and wellness within daily choices
  4. Identify community resources for health maintenance in independent living
  5. Set goals in areas of health management (e.g. nutrition, fitness, stress management)

Teaching and Learning Approach

Students can expect various teaching methodologies such as small group projects (e.g. class presentations), individual projects (e.g. goal setting, recording daily activities), and discussions (e.g. personal health practices).

Learning Resources

Recommended: 3-ring binder, dividers, pen and pencils, and any personal stationery items for personal use (e.g. markers).

Competency-based Grades

This grading system is based on satisfactory acquisition of defined skills or successful completion of the course learning outcomes. It is used where standard numerical grades are not generally applied, for example in evaluating practicum performance or work placements, in pass/fail courses or for non-credit courses.

Grade Description
AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
