RPM 220 Rural Health Issues III builds on the skills and knowledge acquired in year-one RPM courses, with a special focus on social and economic determinants of health. The course also seeks to develop students' empathy, self-awareness, and respect for diversity.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Knowledgeably discuss the social and economic determinants of health (SDH), their significance, and their relevance to the work of health care providers
  2. Identify priority interventions that address these SDH’s at the community level
  3. Demonstrate respect for diversity in terms of gender, mobility, physical and mental health
  4. Demonstrate an ability to shift perspective to try to imagine what others of different backgrounds and abilities are experiencing
  5. Articulate an appreciation of the complex challenges involved where profound cultural differences come into play in the delivery of health care

RPM220 utilizes a variety of teaching and learning approaches, including lectures, videos, small group work, discussion and presentations (both by students and by guests).

AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
