GEOG 60 Geography - Provincial Level

GEOG 60 Geography – Provincial Level provides an introduction into physical and human geography. Specifically, students will develop an understanding of geomorphology, gradational processes, meteorology, climate change, and demography. An important component of this course is the interconnection between human activities and the earth’s physical systems and resources. Students will develop skills in analyzing and interpreting data from maps, tables, graphs and text.

 

This course prepares students for further studies in social sciences at the post-secondary level. This course qualifies for the BC Adult Graduation Diploma.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Explain the five themes of geography
  2. Read and provide UTM coordinates on a topographic map
  3. Explain tectonic forces and the resultant landforms
  4. Describe weathering and gradational forces, and the resulting landscapes
  5. Identify causes and mitigation of geophysical hazards
  6. Explain weather and climate in terms of atmospheric and oceanic processes and climatic control
  7. Identify the ways humans are altering Earth’s natural systems and examine the significance of those changes
  8. Explain the importance of an integrated and sustainable approach to resource management
  9. Explain factors which influence population distribution, density and human migration
