EMPS 17 Employability and Workplace Skills II

EMPS 17 Employability and Workplace Skills II builds upon the skills developed in EMPS 15. This course continues exploring the hands-on learning opportunities for developing essential employability skills. Students will enhance workplace skills transferable to any work place. Topics include: behavioural expectations, following directions, feedback reception, positive work habits, and organizational skills.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate initiative, dependability and reliability on the job
  2. Participate in verbal and non-verbal exchanges between fellow students, instructors, and support staff that reflects appropriateness for the workplace
  3. Identify and evaluate safe work sites
  4. Identify and demonstrate safe work practices
  5. Set work-related goals and areas for improvement, and participate in evaluation
  6. Exhibit good organizational skills and work habits (e.g. use planning tools, follow transit schedules, maintain punctuality, and attendance)
  7. Demonstrate positive workplace habits and values
  8. Plan and complete tasks in the worksite

Competency-based Grades

This grading system is based on satisfactory acquisition of defined skills or successful completion of the course learning outcomes. It is used where standard numerical grades are not generally applied, for example in evaluating practicum performance or work placements, in pass/fail courses or for non-credit courses.

Grade Description
AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
