CPRJ 20 Community Project I provides students with an experiential learning opportunity. Students will collaborate together to design and execute a community-based project. The project will highlight skill areas in teamwork, communication, community connections, budgeting, project planning and project completion.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Identify suitable opportunities to give back to the community
  2. Formulate short and long term goals for course completion
  3. List specific skills needed for project completion
  4. Identify materials and resources needed
  5. Use effective workplace communication
  6. Demonstrate a basic awareness of working conditions and job skill levels
  7. Demonstrate positive work-site attitudes and ethics
  8. Understand roles and responsibilities of the assigned job positions
  9. Interact in a courteous and professional manner with all stakeholders
  10. Perform safe work practices
  11. Gain further hands-on experience during learning project
  12. Use organizational tools to keep on schedule

Teaching and Learning Approach

Teaching methods will include individual and small group tasks, but will be mainly focused on completing the goals set by the students for the community project.

3-ring binder, dividers, pen and pencils, and any other personal stationery items for personal use (e.g., markers).

Grading Table

Competency-based Grades

This grading system is based on satisfactory acquisition of defined skills or successful completion of the course learning outcomes. It is used where standard numerical grades are not generally applied, for example in evaluating practicum performance or work placements, in pass/fail courses or for non-credit courses.

Grade Description
AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
