COLL 13 College Success – Skills for Transitioning to College Life II further continues the introduction to College routines for prospective students transitioning to the Accessible Education and Training (AET) Program. This course is for a student who needs more time to develop skills for college and finding strategies for independence and success in the college environment. Students will be identified for taking this course after discussion with the instructor to pinpoint goals for success and transition into the AET Program.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Set an individualized learning goal for success in college programming
  2. Identify personal strengths and areas for improvement for attending college independently
  3. Identify strategies for learning successfully in the college classroom
  4. Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of basic skills in the classroom
  5. Identify positive organization and work habits for success
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the behavioural expectations of a success ASE student

Teaching and Learning Approach

Students can expect various teaching methodologies such as guest speakers, (e.g. counsellors), small group projects (e.g. class presentations), individual projects (e.g. goal setting, worksheets) and class discussions (e.g. what are steps for proper hand washing).

Learning Resources

Recommended: 3-ring binder, dividers, pen and pencils, and any personal stationery items for personal use (e.g. markers).

Competency-based Grades

This grading system is based on satisfactory acquisition of defined skills or successful completion of the course learning outcomes. Grade Description
AAV ABOVE AVERAGE -The student has mastered all or most course objectives/requirements in a minimum time frame and has exemplified good work and study habits.
COM COMPLETE – denotes that the student has mastered a satisfactory number of course objectives/requirements in a non-credit course
CRG CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was satisfactory in a credit course.
NCG NO CREDIT GRANTED - denotes that the student performance was unsatisfactory.
PCG PARTIAL CREDIT GRANTED – denotes that the student has successfully completed a portion of the course objectives in a credit course.
