GNUR440 Physical Aging and Chronic Disease Management: Part I

GNUR 440 Physical Aging and Chronic Disease Management.  Part I In this course learners will explore age-related changes and commonly occurring diseases of the neuro-sensory, gastro-intestinal, and genitourinary systems. Using Miller’s (2015) Nursing Model for Promoting Wellness in Older Adults, learners will identify cumulative risk factors for onset of disease and/or disability, complications arising in all domains of holism, and subsequent negative functional consequences. Learners will explore the pharmacological approach to disease management and health promotion. Using Maslow, Erikson, and Lange’s theories, inter-professional and nursing actions aimed at limiting potential negative functional consequences into older age will be explored. Additional systems will be explored in GNUR 530 and GNUR 540.
