Teaching and Learning Approach
This course requires active attendance and participation, as well as purchase of the required textbook. Students
are required to bring their laptops to each class, as class time will be split between lecture, discussion, and
individual and group online work, exercises, quizzes and assignments.
AI policy for this class
This class will involve extensive use of AI, particularly ChatGPT. I’ll be teaching you about AI prompts, limitations,
opportunities, and many class assignments will require you to use AI and understand it. As this is emerging
technology, I’m also hoping you will teach me (and the rest of the class) any elegant hacks or prompt-
engineering skills you’ve learned.
Like any tool, AI can only provide help that is as good as the input. Low-quality, minimum-effort prompts will
result in low-quality, minimum-value responses.
It’s not perfect, so you need to check and verify that what it told you is true.
The absolute fundamental rule for using AI in your assignments is that YOU MUST provide acknowledgement,
and an explanation / copy of the prompts you used to get your material. Failure to do so will result in a charge of
violation of Academic Integrity (Cheating and Plagiarism) and will result in failing the assignment, the class, or
expulsion from the program).
