BUS 452 Financial Management examines the role of finance and the tools and environment of financial decision making. Topics include: time value of money, foundations for valuation, financial analysis and planning, management of current assets and liabilities, capital budgeting, risk and return, and personal finance. Together with BUS 455 Corporate Finance this course will enable the student to acquire the needed skills and knowledge to analyze common corporate financial decisions. These two courses will also provide a basis for further advanced studies.
Prerequisites: BUS 343 or BUS 340 with a minimum grade of 64%

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Identify how finance builds on the disciplines of accounting and economics
- Prepare the three basic financial statements
- Identify the limitations of the balance sheet and income statements, and the importance of cash flows as identified in the statement of cash flows
- Calculate and interpret basic financial statement ratios
- Prepare the three basic financial statements for forecasting the cash budget, the pro forma balance sheet and income statement
- Define, calculate and interpret financial and operating leverage
- Identify the risks and opportunities involved in working capital management
- Apply the concepts of liquidity and risk to current asset management
- Calculate the cost and availability of various short-term financings
- Apply the time value of money and the concept of risk in the capital budgeting decision
- Understand and analyze a corporate annual report
