BUS 301 An Introduction to Business Communication II

BUS 301 An Introduction to Business Communication II explores business and academic language skills commonly in Canada. In addition to reinforcing the essential academic integrity skills (plagiarism/citations and authentic work), students will focus on reflective writing, summarizing and expressing opinion and using formal business language for communication and reporting. Students will have to demonstrate appropriate skills both orally and in writing. Topics will vary, and students are required to work individually and in small groups demonstrating professional and collaborative business skills on projects, in discussions and for presentations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Apply understanding and use of skills associated with academic integrity including citations, paraphrasing, referencing and authentic work
  2. Apply a summary-response essay/report demonstrating understanding of summary and paraphrasing techniques
  3. Utilize various business communication styles to make requests, respond to concerns, present information and communicate that are applicable in a business setting
  4. Modify create and edit various forms of written work to align with appropriate grammar, language and formal business tone
  5. Demonstrate discussion and dialogue skills including leading formal discussions, listening and responding to questions and different views, and summarizing and making recommendations
